Purpose of Job: The Lead Architectural Technician will provide technical support as part of the Estates Department’s Development Team on projects from inception to completion. This includes the creation of design concepts, technical drawings, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. Responsibilities also include producing associated documentation, as-built drawings, involvement in design changes, and offering design support to other departments as necessary.
Key Tasks/Accountabilities:
- Manage and oversee the Architectural Technician team, assisting the Principal Development Manager on major development projects from inception to completion, including prioritising workloads
- Produce high-quality concept and technical drawings in AutoCAD and Revit suitable for planning, tendering, and construction on various project types, including new builds, refurbishments, and groundworks
- Manage change management procedures to ensure the continued evolution of specifications
- Maintain and oversee a library of standard details, ensuring they are up to date
- Support Development Managers on projects, including obtaining Building Regulation approval through the preparation of drawings and technical information
- Produce concept plans for future project reviews
- Create planning drawings for projects in coordination with Planning and Development Managers and manage planning applications as necessary
- Engage with external suppliers and consultants as directed by Development Managers
- Review and ensure current construction specifications comply with regulations and meet internal stakeholders' expectations
- Update as-built drawings to maintain a current library across the estate
- Conduct site visits as necessary to support job responsibilities
- Provide AutoCAD drafting assistance to other departments as directed by the Principal Development Manager
Essential Skills & Experience Required:
- Educated to HND or higher in a building-related qualification
- Line Management Responsibility: Two Architectural Technicians
- Proven experience as a UK-based Architectural Technician
- Highly proficient in AutoCAD with excellent knowledge of Building Regulations and relevant building legislation, such as British Standards
- Working knowledge of Revit is advantageous
- Ability to produce high-quality technical construction drawings
- Knowledge of planning processes and ability to manage planning applications
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent organisational skills with a methodical approach to managing workloads
- Ability to work as a team player and contribute effectively to team goals
- Full UK driver’s licence and own vehicle
- Flexibility to include a combination of office, home, and on-site working. Willingness to travel across the UK and stay overnight as required
